EDGARD – The Army Corps of Engineers will add a fresh coat of pavement and some minor improvements to the ferry landing in Reserve over the next several months.
The focus of the project is to improve the access ramps and the road for the ferry landing that travels from Reserve to Edgard, according to project manager Shawn Vicknair.
The improvements are part of project by the Corps of Engineers to prevent erosion on the West Bank levee from Baton Rouge to Venice. Vicknair said the project is 98 percent complete and their work on the ferry landing is “basically tightening up the loose ends.”
The 1500 feet of concrete also being added to the levee wall as part of the ferry project in Edgard will all be funded 100 percent through federal money, Vicknair said, and is scheduled to start in September, taking approximately four months to complete.
The project is part Mississippi River and Tributaries appropriation secured through the Army Corps of Engineers.
Vicknair said the ferry would be closed intermittently after the project begins. An exact schedule of the ferry’s operating area will be available after bidding for the project is complete.
