LAPLACE — Sex crime continues to climb in the River Region, with two more instances reported in recent days.
In LaPlace, a woman met with a former employer on July 6, and according to Sgt. Dane Clement of the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, the man groped the woman, attempted to remove her shirt and force her onto a bed.
She broke free and made a successful escape, and she reported the incident to the sheriff’s office on July 8. An arrest has not yet been made.
In Norco, a 41-year-old man was booked July 7 on a charge of aggravated rape involving his 5-year-old daughter in instances which allegedly took place in July and October 2005.
His name was withheld to protect the identity of the victim, who reported the incident to her mother, who in turn called the sheriff’s office, according to the sheriff’s spokesman, Capt. Patrick Yoes.
