LAPLACE — A 10-year-old LaPlace girl told her mother she had been inappropriately touched by her father during a family visit in Garyville.

Maj. Michael Tregre of the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, reported the incident allegedly took place on July 2, while the child and her mother were visiting a grandmother in Garyville.

As her father was sitting on a sofa with her dad, she said he began groping her and warned her not to tell, or he would take away clothing he had bought for her. The girl did, however, tell her mother, and the father was apprehended.

His name has not been released to protect the alleged victim’s identity. He has posted on the $25,000 bond and has been released.

In another St. John Parish police incident, a 32-year-old Garyville man said he had been robbed at gunpoint on June 28, as he packed his vehicle for an out-of-town trip, Tregre said.

The alleged victim said he was approached at 7:45 p.m. that day by two black men, one with a shotgun and the other with a handgun, who robbed him of $640 cash.

The alleged victim delayed reporting the incident until July 5, after his return from his trip to visit his aging father, according to the sheriff’s spokesman.
