Two-car accident kills two in Edgard

EDGARD — Two St. John Parish residents died in a two -vehicle collision Monday afternoon in Edgard. Three others received injuries as well, according to Louisiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Matt Trahan.

Chevrolet Lumina southbound on River Road at 12:51 p.m. Trahan said that due to driver error, the Chevrolet slipped off the shoulder and when Morris over-compensated, he steered directly into the path of a 1999 GMC pickup, driven by Charlie Moore, 59, of Reserve.

Morris received moderate injuries and was airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. His front-seat passenger, Therial Reese, 19, of LaPlace, was transported to East St. James Hospital, where he later died. He had not worn a seat belt. The rear seat passenger, Talon A. Gauthier, 20, of Edgard, did not wear his seat belt and received moderate injuries.

Moore, who had worn his seat belt received critical injuries and was airlifted to East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie. His wife, Georgia Moore, 63, was taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. She had also worn her seat belt.

Trooper Burnell Dedeaux is continuing his investigation.
