LULING — Property taxes collected by the St. Charles Pairsh School Board will remain at their current level with no millage adjustments, by action of the board Wednesday night.

The current millages for 2006, according to Comptroller Jim Melohn, include the following: 42.97 mills for school operations and maintenance tax, 6.36 mills for school bonds service, 4.90 mills for school construction and improvement, and 4.10 mills for school constitutional tax.

During 2005, the school system rolled back the millage collection by a half mill. Plus, residents will be able to realize the equivalent of a three-mill rollback, should they spend about $1,000 during the planned sales tax holiday planned July 29-30 in St. Charles Parish.

The holiday, Melohn said, set a $2,500 per tax-free purchase and applies only to consumer goods, while exempting only the board’s 3 percent sales tax. The state’s 4 percent sales tax and the parish government’s 2 percent sales tax will still apply.

An estimated 89 percent of the property tax paid in St. Charles Parish is anted up by industries and business, and the remaining 11 percent by homeowners.

Estimated revenues for 2006, Melohn told the board, will be $34,952,000 in the General Fund, $3,658,868 in the Capital Improvement Fund and $4,900,000 for Debt Service.
