LAPLACE — Councilman Ronnie Smith is working a project that will create a safe path from Cambridge Park to the St. John Parish Library on Highway 51.
Smith said he is in the beginning stages of getting the bike/walk path approved.
“In order for the path to work, we will need to go through the backyards of a couple of residential homes,” Smith said. “I am in the process of getting approval from the landowners.”
Smith said once the path is in place, it will provide a safe way for kids to get from the Cambridge Park, located behind the Arcuri Courthouse, to the library.
“I’m doing it for the safety of the kids,” Smith said. “With this path, they will not have to go across a major highway to get to the library.”
Smith said he is also in the process of getting funding for the project, and thinks it will not be a problem. He said the path way will include a fence on both sides and lighting for the evening times. He also said the path could be used to walk or bike across.
