LAPLACE — Councilman Ronnie Smith is working a project that will create a safe path from Cambridge Park to the St. John Parish Library on Highway 51.

Smith said he is in the beginning stages of getting the bike/walk path approved.

&#8220In order for the path to work, we will need to go through the backyards of a couple of residential homes,” Smith said. &#8220I am in the process of getting approval from the landowners.”

Smith said once the path is in place, it will provide a safe way for kids to get from the Cambridge Park, located behind the Arcuri Courthouse, to the library.

&#8220I’m doing it for the safety of the kids,” Smith said. &#8220With this path, they will not have to go across a major highway to get to the library.”

Smith said he is also in the process of getting funding for the project, and thinks it will not be a problem. He said the path way will include a fence on both sides and lighting for the evening times. He also said the path could be used to walk or bike across.
