LaPlace shooting leaves witness at crime scene

LAPLACE – The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting that occurred on St. Patrick’s Day in the 1800 block of West Airline Highway.
Maj. Mike Tregre, spokesman for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office said there was a witness.
“We received a call around 11:33 p.m. from an unknown caller in reference to someone being shot,” he said. “Not even five minutes later, a male subject walked into the River Parishes Hospital ER with a gunshot wound under his right lower rib area.”
Tregre said the victim was a 23-year-old Reserve resident. At the scene, witnesses said a man driving a green Pontiac Grand Prix or Grand Am leaving the scene in a fast manner.
“We talked with one witness who said he saw one male walk up to the other and the suspect fired one shot at the victim,” Tregre said. “That witness was the one who brought the victim to the hospital.”
Tregre said investigators have yet to interview the victim, due to his extreme pain from the incident.
