Rebels upend ESJ Wildcats, remain perfect

Riverside to play host through this weekend in tournament, face St. Charles on Sunday

Riverside got the better of East St. John this week with a 13-9 win to give the Rebels a perfect 7-0 record so far on the season.

The Rebels opened up the game early, knocking in ten runs in the first three innings while allowing only one in the first. Led this year by senior Lee Haydel, who has committed to LSU baseball, Riverside got 12 hits including Haydels two and two more by Porrier who got 3 RBIs and a homer. A.J. Delauneville also went 2-of-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs while Richmond went 2-for2 with 2 runs batted in.

ESJ started to rally in the late innings of the game, scoring two in both the fourth and fifth innings, followed by four more in the sixth. But Riverside closed out the game with a final score in the sixth to finish it up 13-9.

The loss puts East St. John at 2-6 for the season.

Riverside will be playing host this weekend for a tournament. Play started yesterday and runs through Sunday with the Rebels taking on St. Charles at 3 p.m.
