Comets even record with win over Shaw

Jared Nowell drives in winning run early on in game

With a win over Archbishop Shaw, the St. Charles Comets have pulled back to an even record at 4-4.

After dropping three of four games in a tournament in Ruston last week, the Comets rebounded with a 8-1 win over Shaw on the road.

The Comets put the game away in the first with 4 runs.  They would add 2 in the third and 2 fifth while surrendering one in fifth. Kyle Olasin singled thru the right side. Casey Robottom would drag bunt for a hit to put runners at first and second with none out. Matt Heltz would walk to load the bases and bring up James Callahan. James would single thru the left side to plate Kyle.  Jared Nowell would knock in two runs with a hit to left center to make the score 3-0.  James would score on a passed ball with Nowell ending up on third base.  The Comets would leave Jared at third as Chris Waguespack, Jonathan Cancienne, and Philip Sutton failed to drive him in.  

Steven Duhe got the start and the win to up his record to 2-1. Steven threw 5 innings giving up 3 hits and striking out 9.  He gave up one unearned run to lower his era to 2.05. Matt Heltz threw the last two innings giving up an infield single, walking one and striking out 5. 

The Comets were led at the plate by Kyle Olasin, Heltz, and Nowell with two hits. Robottom, James Callahan, Chris Waguespack and Sutton all contributed one hit.  Nowell drove in 4 runs while Waguespack and Callahan each drove in one.
