Garyville man booked after shooting at acquaintance

GARYVILLE — A Garyville man was arrested and charged with illegal use of weapons and attempted second degree murder, after shooting at a moving vehicle.

Sgt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office said that Rodney Mason Jr., 17, approached a passenger van, driven by a woman while on Historic East Street in Garyville.

&#8220The victim reported that while in the passenger van, Mason approached the vehicle on the driver’s side, and pointed a chrome gun at her,” Clement said. &#8220The victim started to drive off, and when she did Mason fired the hand gun and struck the driver side door.”

Clement said that the victim was able to get away and went to the Sheriff’s Office. A warrant was issued for Mason’s arrest on Feb. 21. He was arrested on March 1 and taken into custody on a $250,000 bond set by Judge Mary Hotard Becnel.
