St. Charles boy’s basketball team avenged an earlier district loss to St. James last Friday, forcing a three-way tie for the 10-2A title between the Comets, the Wildcats and the Donaldsonville Tigers.
In the game Friday night, St. Charles traveled for the tip-off and traded blows with the district leading Wildcats through the first quarter. The second was more in favor of the home team, taking St. James into the break ahead, 25-20.
But the Comets came out for the second half sharp. Led by Michael Troglen’s 20 points in the game, the SCC offense made up the difference on the scoreboard and made a push for the win. With less than a minute to go, and the score tied at 49, Troglen scored two to go ahead and the Comets hit on 10 of 11 free throws to extend it to a ten point lead before time expired for the 63-53 win. Jonathan Bonura posted 18 points in the victory while Andrew Coleman got 14.
This is a second consecutive season where St. Charles has been atop their division after winning it last year in district 10-3A.
