LAPLACE – Two men allegedly were shot while traveling in their truck down Interstate 10 on Friday night. The victims claim it was a random shooting.
Around 11 p.m., the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call alleging “a 1995 Chevrolet pick-up truck was traveling on I-10 heading west, when a silver pick-up truck drove up beside the truck in the left lane and opened fire,” said Maj. Mike Tregre, spokesman for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office. The call was from the passenger, a 35-year old Belle Rose man.
Tregre said after the silver pick-up truck opened fire, the Chevrolet pick-up truck, driven by a 25-year old Kenner man, slowed down and made a u-turn across the median. The Chevrolet was then in the eastbound lane.
“The victims took the Belle Terre exit and made it to the Percy D. Hebert Building,” Tregre said. “The driver and passenger windows were shattered, and there were three bullet holes in the driver side door.”
Tregre said the driver sustained two gunshot wounds to his left shoulder, and the passenger had one gunshot wound to his left shoulder. Both were treated at River Parishes Hospital. Tregre said the victim’s names cannot be released at this time.
