RESERVE – Paul F. Becnel Sr., 91, a native of St. James and a resident of Reserve, died Dec. 28. He was the husband of the late Emily Bourgeois Becnel.

He is survived by his children Mary Alice (Nolan) Landeche, Paul (Brenda) Becnel Jr., Harold (Dianne) Becnel, Catherine (Paul) Copponex Sr. and Raymond (late Elleen Sutton) Becnel.

He is also survived by his siblings sister Magdaline Becnel, Rita and Walter Becnel and Anne Comeaux, 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Leocadie Becnel and siblings Richard Becnel, Irma Millet, Bernard Becnel, Sophie buck and Fernand Becnel.

Services were held Dec. 31 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment in the church cemetery.

CHAMPION

LULING – Bess B. Champion, 76, a native of Arkansas and a resident of Luling, died Dec. 31. She was the daughter of Sarah Lynn Champion.

She is survived by her children Kenneth Browne Champion, David Wayne Champion and Glen A. Champion.

She is also survived by her grandchildren John Brown Champion, Haley Anne Champion, Cody Wayne Champion and Troy Michael Champion and great-grandchildren Tristan Jerome Anderson, Laken James Champion, Samantha Gail Champion and Cody Wayne Champion Jr.

Services were held Jan. 3 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose.

LEE

LUCY – Leona &#8220Lou” Powell Lee, 74, a native of Lucy and a resident of Avondale, died Dec. 26. She was the wife of the late Alphonse Lee, Sr.

She is survived by her children Alphonse (Sandra) Lee Jr., Nolan (Laura) Lee, Camille Lee, Helen (Ozeme) Mitchell, Lilian Lee Murray, Roland (Betty) Lee, Ronald Lee, Pauline (Cal) Richard, Valerie Lee, Maryann (Herbert) Bryant, Susan Lee and Denise (Vincent) LaBrano.

She is also survived by her siblings Alberta Gullage, Alma Theodore, Margaret Francis, Ophelia Young, Dianne and Barbara Powell, Rev. Ernest Powell and Rev. James Powell Jr., 34 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Cecile Isaac and James Powell Sr. and siblings Thelma Harris and Betty Lewis.

Services will be held today at noon at Canaan Baptist Church, Killona, with interment in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Edgard.

Robottom Mortuary of Reserve is in charge of arrangements. Visitation begins before the services at the church.

MABILE

LAPLACE – Alexander J. &#8220Alex” Mabile Sr., 83, a native of White Castle and a resident of LaPlace, died Dec. 30. He was the husband of Marie Womblo Mabile.

He is survived by his children Jackie (Raymond) Llotta, A.J. (Helen) Mabile Jr. and Terry (Marsha) Mabile.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Octavia Haydel Mabile, three sisters and seven brothers.

Services were held Jan. 2 at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home Chapel, LaPlace, with interment in St. John Memorial Garden, LaPlace.

MARINE

DESTREHAN – Marilyn &#8220Nookie” Marine, 71, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Destrehan, died Dec. 30. She was the wife of Joseph William Marine Sr.

She is survived by her children Joseph Jr., Kenneth James Marine, Cheryl Rose Riddle, Susan Bailey and Michel Marie Marine.

She is also survived by her siblings J.C. Gomila, Boogie Gomila, Pat Pratt and Bobbie Donnelly, grandchildren Christina Susan Bailey, Chad Richard Bailey and Scott Ryan Ridle.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, with interment in the church mausoleum.

H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco is in charge of arrangements. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

STEIB

VACHERIE – Joseph Beronie Steib Jr., 55, a native of Vacherie and a resident of Villa Feliciana, Jackson, Louisiana, died Dec. 28. He was the son of Natalie Dumas Steib and the late Joseph B. Steib Sr.

He is survived by his siblings Brenda Gaignard, Leo, Tyrone (Debbie) Steib, Janet Steib-Harrison and Tracy (Victor) Weldon.

He is also survived by his godmother Audrey Howard, godson Craig Gaignard, aunts and uncles Eugenia S. Oubre, Francis Brouet, Barbara Steib, Audrey Howard, James Steib Sr., John Huntley Steib and Marion J. Steib.

He was preceded in death by his godfather Pierre Steib and grandparents Eulan and Baldwin Steib and Ephriam and Orelia Dumas.

Services were held Jan. 2 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment in the church cemetery.

WAGUESPACK

GARYVILLE – Horace A. &#8220Red Eye” Waguespack Sr., 97, a native of Wallace and a resident of Garyville, died Dec. 29.

He was the husband of the late Yolanda Aubert Waguespack.

He is survived by his children Horace Jr., Earl and Daniel &#8220Bean” Waguespack Sr., Glendora Rich and Ethel Waguespack.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Albin, Freddie and Claude Waguespack and Claudia Boe.

Services were held Jan. 3 at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Garyville, with interment in St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.
