LAPLACE — A LaPlace resident died Tuesday after a three vehicle crash on I-10 in Ascension Parish.

Randall J. Duhe, 36, suffered fatal injuries after his Chevrolet pickup truck was struck by a Dodge Grand Caravan, according to Louisiana State Police Troop A Trooper Johnnie Brown.

&#8220A Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Dwayne P. Smith, 43, of Lake Charles, was eastbound on I-10 in the left lane when the vehicle drifted off the road way to the left, crossed the median, and began to rotate counter clockwise,” Brown said.

&#8220The Dodge Caravan entered the westbound travel lane and struck a Chevrolet pickup truck, traveling in the left lane, on the driver’s side. The Grand Caravan continued to rotate counter clockwise as it ran off the north side of I-10, and came to rest upright facing east,” Brown added

Brown said a Toyota pickup truck, the third vehicle, driven by Shane Toncrey, 34, of Prairieville, was westbound in the right lane in front of the pickup truck, and received damage from the debris.

&#8220Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the crash, and seatbelts were used by all parties,” Brown said. &#8220Smith will be booked with careless operation and negligent homicide.”

Toncrey received no injuries and refused treatment at the scene and Smith received moderate injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, according to Brown.
