FEMA center now closed in St. James Parish

BATON ROUGE – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the closing of a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in St. James Parish at the Lions Club Building, 29126 Health Unit St., in Vacherie.

The DRC has been visited nearly 4,000 times and closed on Thursday.

Disaster victims still in need of assistance can visit any open DRC in the state. The nearest DRC for St. James Parish residents is: Lafourche Parish

Individuals can begin the disaster application process by calling the toll-free registration number, 800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing- or speech-impaired.

The FEMA registration hotline and Helpline will remain open on New Year’s Day, following their normal schedule of operating daily, twenty-four hours a day. You can also register online at www.fema.gov.

DRCs will be closed from December 31 – January 2 and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3. (hours: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday).
