BATON ROUGE — This holiday season, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the Federal Highway Administration and Louisiana State Police are urging drivers to be cautious on Louisiana’s roads and arrive at their destinations safely.

The &#8220Safe Holidays are Happy Holidays” campaign aims to remind holiday travelers to stay safe on the roads this holiday season. As a symbol of this message, DOTD has decorated a holiday tree, which stands on the lawn of DOTD Headquarters in Baton Rouge.

&#8220We want to remind the public of Louisiana that safety is a primary mission of this department,” said Johnny B. Bradberry, secretary of DOTD. &#8220The more people we can reach with our message of driver safety, the more lives we save.”

The campaign will include a statewide public service announcement, which will ask holiday travelers to &#8220take extra care on the road by obeying posted speed limits, paying attention to signs and signals, wearing your seat belt and refraining from drinking and driving.” The PSA points out that &#8220following these simple driving tips could mean the difference between a joyous holiday and a tragic new year.”

The PSA will air on Louisiana Network during the last two weeks of December. By using the radio as its medium, DOTD hopes to reach many holiday travelers at an opportune time – while they are on the road.
