VACHERIE — A Vacherie man lost his life in a two-vehicle crash which occurred on LA 18 Saturday. The other driver received moderate injuries.
Trooper Matt Trahan with Louisiana State Police said the crash happened around 7 p.m. on Saturday. “Sandra Baira, 33, of Ama, was driving her 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer northbound on LA 18, near the School for Math and Science, approximately one mile north of LA 20 in Vacherie,” Trahan said.
“Due to driver violation, the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle head on.”
The vehicle traveling southbound was a 1994 Mercury Cougar, driven by 42-year old Timothy Jasmine of Vacherie, according to Trahan.
“Mr. Jasmine initially received critical injuries in this crash,” he said. “He was transported to East St. James Hospital by Acadian Ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead.”
Baira was transported to River Parishes Hospital and treated for her injuries. Both Baira and Jasmine were wearing their seatbelts.
It is still undetermined, whether or not alcohol use was a factor in the crash. Blood test results are still pending at the LSP Crime Lab in Baton Rouge.
Charges in the crash are also pending the results of the blood test, according to Trahan.
