LAPLACE — Comets soccer got a leg up on their season record Thursday night taking a 1-0 victory over Destrehan’s Lady Cat soccer squad in LaPlace.

The teams were pretty evenly matched throughout the game as defense from both sides kept the number of goal shots to a minimum. St. Charles forward Reyna Lubin scored the only goal of the game in the first half and kept up the momentum in the second with a few well placed passes and advances. Teammate Angela Suarez aided in the effort with some steals and clears around mid-field.

Once the Comets got on top 1-0, the second half of play found some stiff defense. A save by SCC goalie Kristen Carrier early in the period was followed by a wall of defenders protecting thier net from a corner kick by Destrehan’s Kala Keller. A trio of saves by Carrier with 8:30, 5:25 and 3:11 repelled any thoughts of overtime play and SCC took the win.

The game puts St. Charles at 2 wins, 3 losses and two ties. They will host ESJ this Tuesday.
