LaPlace — An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Tuesday of an unidentified man, whose body was found Monday morning, floating in the waters by Interstate 55 about five miles north of Peavine Road.

The St. John Sheriff’s Office was notified about the body around 9:30 a.m. after a passing truck driver noticed the remains, floating in the water.

“The truck driver saw the body and contacted DOTD,” said spokesman Maj. Mike Tregre for the St. John Parish Sheriff Office. “The DOTD then contacted authorities.”

Tregre said the man was wearing a white shirt and socks, and had numerous tattoos, one earring and a ring on his left hand.

Tregre added that following the autopsy, more information will be available toward the identification of the man and the cause of his death.

No further definitive information was made available as of press time Tuesday.
