ST. ROSE — Louisiana State Police are still trying to locate and identify a Kenner teenager, who is believed to have died in an accident early in the morning of Sept. 23, when the car he was driving submerged into the canal alongside Airline Highway near Interstate 310.
The accident involved a vehicle with three occupants, headed eastbound on Airline at 2:20 a.m. Two passengers managed to escape from the rapidly-sinking vehicle, but the third, a 16-year-old Kenner boy, failed to escape and apparently drowned.
The vehicle, a 2005 Mazda MZ-6, was retrieved from the deep canal, but no sign was found of the missing teenager, State Police spokesman Omar Landrum said.
Witnesses to the accident claimed the vehicle had been speeding prior to the wreck. The survivors said everyone had been wearing seat belts.
