St. John picks new Sugar Queen

RESERVE — Hannah Christine Levin, 18, a native of LaPlace and a resident of Garyville, earned the crown of St. John the Baptist 2005 Sugar Queen.
Levin, a graduate of Riverside Academy, was not sure about even entering the competition.
“I wasn’t even sure I wanted to do this,” Levin said. “I didn’t have a dress or a sponsor, but I ended up doing it, because of all the support I had.”
Levin said she was just wanted to at least place in the competition and never imagined she would have won.
“I was completely shocked,” she said. “I was praying that I would place. I had no idea that this would happen.”
Levin was sponsored by Sheriff Wayne L. Jones and Fred Trosclair, Inc. She is the daughter of Robert and Carole Levin and stepdaughter of Sarah Levin.
“I thank my family and friends for their support and help,” she said. “They believed in me.”
Levin said she is looking forward to traveling as much as she can.
“I am thankful for the opportunity,” she said. “I am look forward to representing the Parish.”
Levin will represent St. John Parish the weekend of Sept. 23 in New Iberia for the state Queen Sugar Coronation.
Levin was the 2002 Teen Miss Louisiana, 2002 and 2003 NCA All American Cheerleader, 2004 and 2005 Riverside Academy Cheerleading captain, and four-year track letterman.
She enjoys writing poetry, gymnastics, singing and spending time with her family and friends.Levin said she wants to earn a degree in business and marketing.
“I want to go to beauty school,” she said. “I would like to open a day spa one day.”
