Former Hahnville star Landry leads LSU All-SEC team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU had eight players named to the 2005 Southeastern Conference Coaches Preseason All-Conference football team, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Andrew Whitworth, former Hahnville star LaRon Landry and former Higgins High School star Skyler Green led the list of Tigers, each being named First-team All-SEC.

Whitworth, a senior offensive tackle, earned first-team offense. He started all 12 games last season and enters 2005 with 39 straight starts.

Landry, a junior safety, was a first-team defensive selection. He led LSU with in tackles with 92 last season and collected a team-best four interceptions.

Green, a senior wide receiver, was a first-team special teams member as a return specialist. In 2004, Green totaled 492 return yards combined on kickoffs and punts, including one punt return for a touchdown.

Junior running back Alley Broussard was named second-team running back, while senior defensive tackles Claude Wroten was a second-team selection on defense for LSU.

Broussard gained 867 yards on the ground in 2004 and scored 10 touchdowns, while Wroten had 44 tackles and six sacks last season.

Kyle Williams, Cameron Vaughn and Ronnie Prude were each named third-team defense.

Williams, a senior defensive tackle, started all 12 games in 2004 and had 57 tackles and six sacks. Vaughn, a senior linebacker, also started all 12 games last season and recorded 63 tackles. Prude, a senior cornerback, collected 28 tackles, one sack and one interception in 2004 for the Tigers.

The pre-season All-SEC teams are selected by the 12 conference coaches in advance of the 2005 SEC Football Media Days, held July 27-29 in Hoover, Ala.
