BATON ROUGE — Some changes will be taking place on Louisiana highways for the upcoming Fourth of July weekend, according to Johnny B. Bradbury, secretary of Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

Bradbury announced Monday that in St. John the Baptist Parish, holiday traffic may encounter a lane closure due to construction on U.S. 61 northbound. Speed limits will also be reduced near Garyville.

Secretary Bradbury also announced that all oversize and overweight vehicle movement on all Louisiana highways will be prohibited from Saturday, July 2 through Monday, July 4.

The decision was made in conjunction with the LA Department of Public Safety to provide maximum safety for motorists traveling for the holidays.

Motorists are encouraged to know their local radio stations for traffic and accident information prior to choosing routes. Travelers who notice road hazards are urged to call 1-800-259-HWAY, the DOTD’s safety hotline.
