LAPLACE — A public hurricane preparedness meeting is set June 23 at the St. John the Baptist Parish main library in LaPlace, located on U.S. 51, and starting at 7 p.m.

This is the second annual program to inform citizens of readiness for hurricane season. Of special interest will be the newly-revised contraflow evacuation procedure in the event of an approaching storm.

Speakers and their topics include:

Kathy Gilmore of St. John Emergency Preparedness will speak on local readiness and dealing with storm surge problems.

Adrienne Labat of St. John Planning and Zoning will speak on flooding issues.

Lt. Troy Cassioppi of the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office will speak on traffic and evacuation routes.

Also scheduled to attend are representatives from St. John United Way and American Red Cross.

Library Director Randy DeSoto commented, “We hope that people will take advantage of having all these presenters present from the varied agencies dealing with emergencies to come and get information and answers to questions that they may have.”
