HAHNVILLE- A St. Charles Parish man has been arrested and charged with attempted rape after breaking into a women’s residence and attacking her, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Burt Dempster, 38, of Des Allemands was arrested Thursday at his residence and booked with aggravated burglary and attempted rape, reports said

According to Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, the woman was home when Dempster, whom she is acquainted with, arrived at her residence in Paradis. When she would not let him inside, he allegedly later forced his way inside and began striking the victim.

Dempster then tried to rape her, but the woman stabbed him in the leg with a knife and was able to escape. She then called authorities to report the crime.

Yoes said the two had been in each others company earlier that night.

Dempster is at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center with a bond set at $75,000.
