LAPLACE-It was one of those games that you know you are going to more than likely win, but just want to get over and escape without an injury.

Mission Accomplished for the St. Charles Catholic Comets.

Behind a relentless hitting attack and a complete-game shutout from Jesse Martin on the mound, the Comets defeated Donaldsville Thursday afternoon, 10-0.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

With the win, the Comets improve to 15-8-2 overall and remain a perfect 6-0 in district 10-3A play.

Casey Robottom continued his hot-hitting Thursday, going 2-3 and Chris Waguespack also went 2-3 at the plate with a double and pair of runs driven in.

Martin was masterful in only five innings of work, allowing two hits and striking out 12.

A close game early, St. Charles Catholic broke the game open in the third inning after scoring five runs.

Comets Head Coach Paul Waguespack said he was glad his team came out and took care of business against Donaldsville.

“That’s all we wanted to do,” Waguespack said. “We wanted to come out, take care of business, get the game over with and get ready for what we have coming up next week.”

Waguespack said he is also happy to see Waguespack getting hot at just the right time, the playoff run.

“You just hope that he can keep it going,” Waguespack said. “He is really seeing and hitting the ball well. He was hitting at a .508 clip coming into the game and he still upped his average after his performance today. Hopefully he can just continue to keep it up.”
