BOUTTE-Overall, it was not the greatest of days to be a fan of Destrehan High School.

In addition to their baseball team losing to Hahnville, the Destrehan Lady Wildcat softball team fell as well, 10-0.

The game was called after six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The loss drops Destrehan to 10-5 in district 6-5A and 9-8-3 overall.

Julianne Beaugh picked up the loss in the circle for Destrehan after giving up six runs in four innings of work. Chantellle Simoneaux also gave up two runs in two innings of work in relief.

Courtney Berthelot was the lone bright spot at the plate for the Lady Wildcats as her double was one of only five Destrehan hits.

“We are going to finish fourth in our district, but we think we are in as a wildcard,” Destrehan Head Coach Russell Shaw said. “That’s our ultimate goal. We just want to get in, because after you are in everyone is 0-0.”

Losing 10-0, Shaw said it was difficult to find a whole lot of positive things to say.

“We didn’t’ quit,” Shaw said. “That’s the only thing that you could say. Hahnville was clearly better than us on that particular day. They deserved to win, but our kids fought hard. We didn’t give up and that is going to serve us well later on down the road.”
