BASEBALL REGISTRATION SET

Ascension of Our Lord Recreation Program will hold registration for summer baseball and softball on Sunday April 3 and 17 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Leagues include T-ball for 4-6 year old boys and girls, coaches pitch baseball for 7-9 year old boys and cabbageball for girls, and baseball for 10-14 year old boys. Softball will also be provided for girls 7-15 years old as well as cabbage ball. If you have any questions, call director Mike Abbate at 985-652-5041.

On Sunday April 10 at 2 p.m. Tryouts for PUMA National Tournament Team open to all high school baseball players aged 13-18 will be held. Tryouts will take place at Privateer Stadium on the University of New Orleans campus. Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m. The Baseball Factory and the Team One Baseball staff will be running the tryout. All players must pre-register by contacting Justin Roswell at 800-621-5452.

YOUTH BASKETBALL TOURNEYS AVAILABLE

Prime Time Sports’ spring shootout series of basketball tournaments offers quality competition for boys and girls, grades 4-12. Tournament dates and locations in Louisiana are as follows: April 23-24-New Orleans and Shreveport. Entry fee is $195 per tournament. NICHOLLS TO OFFER SOCCER CLINICS FOR BOYS, GIRLS

THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University soccer team will hold two soccer clinics in April for boys and girls ages 8 to 14 years.

On Saturday, April 9, players will learn the basic skills needed to be an offensive player. Drills will pertain to ball control, passing and receiving and how to strike the ball properly and effectively.

On Saturday, April 16, players will learn aspects of defending. Drills will focus on the correct body position and stance, field positioning, how and when to tackle properly, as well as the use of effective communication.

The clinics will each conclude with short games to show how drills are incorporated into the game.

Instruction will be lead by Nicholls head soccer coach Cindy Piper and members of the university soccer team.

NUMEROUS GOLF TOURNAMENTS SET

The 2005 St. Joan of Arc School “Vikes on Spikes” Golf Classic and Social is set for Friday May 6, 2005 at the Belle Terre Country Club located on 111 Fairway Drive in LaPlace. Lunch is set for 12 p.m. With a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner will be served following the round. The entrance fee is $125 per player or $500 per team. Each golfer will receive two social tickets. There will be hole-in-one contests as well as longest drive, putting and closet-to-the hole contests. The Social will be from 7-11 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Lee and Perry’s (a production of Take 5). Social tickets are $25 per person or $50 per couple. All proceeds will benefit St. Joan of Arc School’s Alack Memorial Library. The second annual Rudolph G. Dinvaunt Athletic Foundation tournament will be held on Friday, April 22, 2005 at the Belle Terre Country Club. Shotgun start at 1 p.m. Proceeds will benefit West St. John Athletic Department and the Rudolph G. Dinvaunt Stadium. The 11th annual Norco Lions Club Golf Tournament is set for April 9, 2005 at the Willowdale Country Club located at 500 Willowdale Blvd. In Luling. Registration begins at 11:30 with tee-time at 1:00. The four-man shotgun start scramble entry fee is $75/person or $300/team which includes green fee, cart, luncheon food court, meal, drinks and prizes. The 14th annual Riverside Open Golf Classic benefiting Riverside Football will be held Monday, April 11th at the Belle Terre Country Club. Shotgun starts at 8 a.m 1 p.m. respectively. Cost is $500/team or a sponsorship of $50. Included with fee is breakfast sausage, po-boy lunch, steak dinner and refreshments. Steak dinner set for 6:30. FRISCO FEST RUN SET

The second annual Frisco Fest 5K/mile run is set for May 22nd at 7:30 for the mile run and 8:00 for the 5K run at the San Fransico Plantation in Garyville, Louisiana. Entry fee is $12 before May 1st, $15.00 after. Ages 12 and under are free. Race amenities include a custom t-shirt, food, cold beer, free admission to browse around the fest featuring crafts, food and entertainment. BIKE RACE SET

The second annual Tour De’San Franciso bike run is set for May 21, 2005 at the San Francisco Plantation in Garryville, Louisiana. Check in time is 7:30 a.m. with a 8 a.m. Start. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. Your $20 entry fee for the 25-mile race includes a t-shirt, drinks and meal. Fee is $25 after May 1st.
