NORCO – The driver of a 2002 Toyota Tacoma was killed late on Thursday night, when State Police said he ran a red light on Airline Highway at Prospect Street.

State Police spokesman Omar Landrum reported the Tacoma was traveling north on Highway 61 (Airline), and reportedly ran through the red light at Prospect Street.

State Police identified the driver as 43-year-old Randall Gaubert of LaPlace.

A 1998 Mack Dump Truck, driven by Ardell Davis, age 25, was turning from Prospect onto Airline and heading north.

But with the Tacoma running the red light, Davis’ truck was hit on the passenger side.

Police said that the Tacoma lodged under the dump truck from the force of the collision, and the driver of the Tacoma had to be extricated, where he was pronounced dead on the scene. Davis did not receive any injuries.

Landrum said that witnesses reported the Tacoma had been swerving in the right lane just as it came up to the red light that was run.

No citations were issued in the case, and State Police said that speed and alcohol are ruled as a possible cause in the crash.
