SLIDELL-It was a learning experience for the young St. Charles Catholic softball team.

Fans may not like the record that they finished in at the tournament, but the lessons learned will help the young Lady Comets squad when it matters most, in district play and down the stretch when they hope to fighting for a playoff spot.

Taking part in one of the tougher tournaments in the area, the Lady Comets traveled to Slidell this past weekend to participate in the Northshore High School Tournament.

St. Charles Catholic went 1-2 in the tournament, defeating Pope John Paul 12-1 and losing to Pearl River 5-2 and the host Panthers of Northshore 4-3.

4-9-1 on the season and 2-0 in district 10-3A, the Lady Comets return to action on Thursday when they play host to district rival Lutcher for a single game which begins at 3:30. The Comets will be looking to break one of the longest losing streaks in school history when they play host to the Lady Bulldogs.

St. Charles Catholic rounds out their week on Saturday when they welcome Mickey Roussel and his Riverside Lady Rebels to St. Charles Catholic for an out-of-district doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 10:00 with the second game to immediately follow.

Headlining the Lady Comet hitting barrage that combined for 17 runs in the Northshore tournament was the duo of Bridget Millet and Lauren Congiglio. Millet had a phenomenal weekend at the plate as she went 5-8 and Coniglio also had a solid weekend going 3-6.

Meanwhile in the circle, Mary Clement had the unfortunate task of going up against two of the top teams in the area in Pearl River and the ever-improving Northshore Panthers.

Clement was the losing pitcher in both games, but her numbers would not show it.

In two time-limited games, Clement allowed only seven hits in nine innings of work and struck out eight batters.

For the year, the Comets’ ace in the circle has a 3-4-1 record in eight starts this season.
