DESTREHAN-Getting your ace back into the circle against live competition is always a good thing.

Destrehan Head Coach Russell Shaw welcomed back ace pitcher Julianne Beaugh this week as the Lady Wildcats picked up a pair of victories to run their record to 11-4-3.

Destrehan defeated South Lafourche, 11-1, in five innings on Tuesday and defeated East St. John 10-6 Thursday afternoon.

The hitting stars of the two victories were Casey Brady and Casey Wilson for Destrehan. Wilson went 3-3 in the five-inning victory over South Lafourche and Brady was 2-3 in the 10-6 win over East St. John.

“We did a good job of scoring runs this week,” Shaw said. “It has put us in a good position right now. We are trying to position ourselves in our district. Right now we are in a three-way tie for second place and have the chance to turn it into a four-way tie for first place.

“Anytime you can get a pitcher of Julianne’s caliber back in the circle you are a better ballclub. She is getting over her soreness in her shoulder and she performed very well the last two games for us.

Shaw said he will not look to bring Beaugh back if she is not ready.

“We are kind of watching her carefully,” Shaw said. “We make sure that she stretches well before games and we just monitor her throughout the game to see if she is okay.”
