EDGARD — West St. John ran through District 10-2A with an undefeated record, bested Riverside 46-7 in a season-ending showdown for the league title and enter the Class 2A playoffs as the state’s fourth-ranked team.

Rams head coach Laury Dupont, however, said his team has room for improvement entering Friday’s postseason opener against Lakeside.

“We turned the ball over three times against Riverside and made several mental mistakes,” Dupont said. “Lakeside has a good team, and we’re going to have to cut down on the turnovers and mental mistakes Friday night.”

Lakeside, which sports a 6-4 overall record, will give the Rams a look they have not seen very often this season.

“Lakeside is not your typical northern Louisiana football team. They have a variety of sets and throw the ball more often than most teams we’ve seen this year,” Dupont said.

West St. John is well equipped at the quarterback position as well. Rams field general Juan Joseph accounted for six touchdowns in his team’s victory against Riverside.
