LaPlace golfers invited

LaPlace area junior golfers ages 11-18 are invited to compete in the Halloween Classic at the Magnolia Course at Beau Chene Country Club in Mandeville, La. on Oct. 23rd-24th. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and

hosted by the four-state (Louisiana,Mississippi, Alabama and Florida) Arrowhead Junior

Golf Tour. Registration deadline is Saturday, Oct. 16.

Hunter education course

A Hunter Education course is being offered in St. John Parish. Hunter Education is one program offered by the Education Section within the Wildlife Division of the La. Dept. Of Wildlife and Fisheries. Anyone can participate in the basic student course, but only those persons 10-years or older are eligible for certification. This is a free course. Courses are taught by Hunter Education staff and volunteer instructors. In St. John Parish, the course will run from October 26-30 from 5:30-9pm in LaPlace. For more info, call 652-7058.

October 25 golf tourney

The 5th Annual Friends of the Port Golf Tournament has been set for Monday, October 25.

This year it will be held at Riverlands Country Club. Registration will begin at noon with tournament play to begin at 1pm.

A banquet will immediately follow. The cost is $100 per person for golf, lunch, beverages and banquet.

The format will be a 4-person scramble. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, third, low scores, longest drive and closest to the hole.

LDWF offering courses

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and local volunteers is sponsoring hunter education courses in your community.

Anyone born on or after September 1, 1969 must take this course before purchasing a hunters license at age sixteen.

The course is free to the public and anyone ten years and older can be certified for life in all 50 states. Participation the entire length of course is mandatory and tardiness is grounds for dismissal.

In St. James Parish, the course wil be October 23 and 24 from 9AM-5PM at the Gramercy Recreation Center. For more info, call 985-535-8161.

St. Charles Golf Classic

The St. Charles Borromeo School’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Organization will be sponsoring its 16th annual Golf Classic on Friday, October 29th, 2004, at Ormond Country Club.Proceeds will be used for school improvements, curriculum enhancements and technological needs.Teams for the morning and afternoon rounds, as well as corporate sponsorships, are now being accepted.
