RESERVE – It took a while, but the Riverside Academy Lady Rebels pulled out a five-game non-district victory over St. Charles Catholic Saturday afternoon in Reserve. After splitting the first two games, SCC won the third game 25-19, while Riverside won games four and five 25-17 and 15-5.

St. Charles Catholic outside hitter Angelle Cupit nailed three kills in the third game for the Lady Comets. One of Cupit’s kills gave the Lady Comets a 20-14 lead. From the mid-point of game three until the end of the game, most of the Lady Rebels points were off of errors.

Two return errors and a serving error gave the Lady Rebels a 20-15 lead. However, the Lady Comets went on to score four out of the next five points to expand their lead.

An ace from Gina Monica made the score 23-16 SCC.

A net violation by Riverside put the Lady Comets one point away from victory in game three. After three consecutive points to trim the lead to 24-19, a return error by Riverside gave the Lady Comets the 25-19 victory.

For most of the fourth game, neither team held more than a four point lead. In game four, Riverside broke open a close game with a 6-0 run, which gave them a 17-11 lead.

St. Charles Catholic, however, did not go down quietly, though. Four out of the five next Lady Comets points trimmed the deficit to 17-15.

Riverside came back to come back to go on to score four unanswered points to take a 21-15 lead.

Following a kill by Cupit, the Lady Rebels came back and scored the final four points of the fourth game to give them a 25-17 victory.

The final game saw Riverside never trail. The Lady Rebels broke it open after leading 8-5. An 8-5 lead ended up being a 15-5 victory for Riverside.

Riverside went on a 7-0 run to end the match.
