LUTCHER – Against E.D White, the St. Charles Catholic Lady Comets won game one and went on to lose the next three.

It was deja vu against Lutcher Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Comets won a hard-fought first game, 25-19, then dropped the next three, 25-10, 25-13, 25-16.

Lauri Martin and Brandi Keller combined for 14 kills and Tristian LeBlanc and Nekedra Nicholas added 32 digs in the victory.

The first game was a wild one, as there were six ties. Each team built a little momentum during the game.

With Lutcher leading 6-5, St. Charles Catholic scored four points to grab a 9-5 lead. However, the Lady Bulldogs rallied to grab an 11-9 lead thanks to return errors from St. Charles. An ace from server Katie Duhe tied the game for the second time, 9-9.

SCC came fighting back thanks to four consecutive kills by four different players to grab a 13-11 lead. A 13-11 Lady Comets lead quickly became a 15-13 Lady Bulldogs lead.

That lead did not last long, though. With the score tied 15-15, a kill by Felicia Taylor gave the Lady Comets their fourth different lead of the game. St. Charles outscored Lutcher 6-1 late in the game to take control and a four point lead.

Amanda Savoie’s kill gave the Lady Comets the victory in the first game.

The second game saw Lutcher start off fast. They jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and saw it grow to a 15-4 lead. The Lady Bulldogs scored six of their first seven points while Traci Martin was serving.

Lauri Martin’s fourth kill of the match gave the Lady Bulldogs an 18-5 lead. A 13-point Lutcher lead became a 16-point lead, their largest of the match, after a serving error from Mary Clement.

A net violation gave the Lady Bulldogs the 25-10 victory in game two.

The Lady Comets were able to hold their own during the first part of the third game. However, with the score tied 10-10 Lutcher outscored SCC 8-0 to grab an 18-10 lead.

All eight points came while Bridget Belak was serving. Her ace capped off the run.

The Lady Comets held the lead twice in the fourth game. Trailing 3-2, the Lady Bulldogs scored five straight points to grab a 7-3 lead.

The Comets were able to close the Lutcher lead to 18-15 after a kill from Taylor. That, however, was the closest they would come because the Lady Bulldogs went on a 5-0 spurt to hold a 23-15 lead.
