HAHNVILLE – A St. Rose business employee was arrested Friday for stealing nearly $21,000 from his employer over a two-year period, according to authorities with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Humberto Alexander, 37 of 38300 Duplesis Rd., Prairieville, allegedly endorsed 16 checks from Johnson Controls and cashed them.

The checks totaling $20,980 were allegedly endorsed between April 2001 and November 2003.

According to Public Information Officer Capt. Patrick Yoes, Alexander wrote the checks to specific entities before endorsing and cashing them.

“For example, he (Alexander) would write checks to the Fire Marshall and would then endorse and cash them,” said Yoes.

Alexander was arrested at 10:10 a.m. on a warrant issued on Sept. 28.

Before being booked into the Sherman Walker Correctional Center, Alexander was charged with theft over $500, bank fraud and relative to monetary instrument abuse.

Alexander was released Friday after posting a $2,000 bond.
