VACHERIE – A single-vehicle traffic accident claimed the life of a St. James woman Friday morning.

Kenyatta R. Charles, 22, of St. James, was driving a 1992 Plymouth Acclaim eastbound on Harrison Street near Oak Alley Plantation in the Baytree community when, according to Trooper First Class Matt Trahan, the Plymouth failed to make a left-hand curve and ran off the roadway to the right.

The vehicle then flipped over several times, partially ejecting Charles.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Trahan said she had not been wearing a seatbelt. There were no other passengers.

Following Louisiana state law, a blood test has been conducted to determine if alcohol played a role in the accident, however, alcohol is not suspected, Trahan continued.

Results of the test conducted at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge are pending. Meanwhile, Trooper Johnny Adams is continuing his investigation.
