Harold Keller – Get High on Life

A few years ago, former first lady, Barbara Bush said that Mother’s Day is a rip-off. I have not agreed with her on many issues, especially the fact that she is pro-choice, but I do agree that Mother’s Day can be a phony excuse to pay tribute to the real heroes of today – mothers.

Sunday, we celebrate Mother’s Day. It is a day set aside to honor all mothers who should be recognized every day of the year. Being a mother is the most important job in our society.

A mother is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Her work, many times, goes unappreciated. She loves unconditionally, and if the secret to living is giving then she has found the secret. She gives, not expecting anything in return. She prays more than any family member does. She worries about all the little things. She is always available for counseling. She rejoices when we are happy, hurts when we hurt and, if allowed, will be our best friend.

With all of the pressures of motherhood, is there anything that can make her job easier? Yes- a godly husband and father. A husband who will encourage her and love her in front of her children. A man who will be the provider, protector and priest of his household; a role model for their children.

If this sounds like a Father’s Day message, it is not. It is about Mother’s Day, which should not only be Sunday, but every day of the year.

To all the mothers – Enjoy this day that is reserved to honor you.

To all the husbands – God commands, and I suggest that you love your wife as God loves the church.

To the children – respect, honor and obey your mother.

With the right chemistry of love, respect and acceptance of each one’s role in the family, God will surely be pleased and everyone will have a Happy Mother’s day, not only Sunday but every day!
