St. John

BERNARD

Jacques Bernard, 79, a native of Paris, France, and a resident of St. Rose for 27 years, died on March 27.

He was the wife of Christine Larroucau Bernard and the father of Conrad and Karl Bernard and Genevieve Swindle.

He was a graduate of the University of Caen in France and had been a chef at the New Orleans Hilton Hotel and the Royal Sonesta.

He is survived by six grandchildren.

Services will be held at Chateau de Feuguerolles in Calvados, France.

CARROLL

KENNER – Lisa All Carroll, 12, a native of Metairie and resident of St. Rose for two years, died March 31.

She was the daughter of Daniel Carroll and Davina Burt and sister of Mattiew Weiss, Joseph and Daniel Carroll Jr.

She attended St. Rose Elementary School.

Services were April 2 in the chapel of L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, Kenner, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose.

CHAMBERS

GARYVILLE – Leona Chambers, 29, a native and resident of Reserve, died March 29.

She was the daughter of the late Rev. Roosevelt and Theresa Chambers, and sister of David, Daniel, Barry, Valorie, Latoya and Danielle Chambers.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Garyville, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

GIBSON

SOUTH VACHERIE – John Alfred Gibson Jr., 65, a native of Durham, N.C., and resident of Jamaica, N.Y., died March 26.

He was the husband of Shirley Ross Gibson and father of Bernard Ross of Wallace, Bernadette Boudoin of Lucy, John Gibson Jr. of New York, and Cheryl Dodd of Maryland.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Life Application Christian Church, South Vacherie, with interment at St. Philip Catholic Cemetery, Vacherie. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

HANNA

LAPLACE – Judson W. Hanna, Jr., 42, a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of LaPlace, New Orleans, Lake Charles and Ventress, died on March 29.

He was the son of Janelle Colligan Hanna and the late Judson W. Hanna, Sr and the brother of Mitchel and Jason Hanna, and the late Scott Hanna.

He was also the grandson of the late Dick and Elethia Hanna and Alex and Anna Mae Colligan.

Services were March 31 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery, LaPlace.

MATHEWS

AMA – Wilton Mathews Jr., a resident of Ama, died March 29.

He was the husband of Shirley Mathews, father of Vernon, Jeffery, Brian, Pauline and Darren Mathews, and stepfather of Edward and Margaret Murray.

He was also the brother of Ella Chambers, Daisyette Tolliver, Julia Lewis, Clifford Washington, and the late Gladys Dallon and Dorothy Williams.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Ama, with interment at Mayflower Cemetery, Ama. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

SPARKS

METAIRIE – Pearl Evelyn Sparks, 54, a native of Metairie and a resident of LaPlace, died March 25. She was the mother of Yolanda A., Lezonia M. Jackson, Jermaine J. Steib and adopted mother od Rose McSwain.

She was also the daughter of the late Alfred and Pearl Overton Sparks, and the sister of adopted brother Willie Byrd.

She is survived by four grandchildren.

Services were April 1 at Nineveh Baptist Church, Metairie, with interment at Providence Memorial Park.
