HAHNVILLE – For the eighth consecutive year, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to St. Charles Parish by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2002 comprehensive annual financial report.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, according to Parish President Albert Laque.

The St. Charles Parish Department of Finance, under the direction of Lorrie Toups, received an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for preparing the award-winning comprehensive annual report.

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

“This honor was earned by all of the employees of the Finance Department,” said Laque, who added, “This demonstrates how seriously they regard their responsibility as the caretakers of the public’s money.”

The GFOA, with offices in Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately14,000 government finance professionals.
