Riverside versus St. Amant
The Riverside Academy Lady Rebels picked up a non-district win recently with a 15-4, 15-5 victory over the St. Amant High School Lady Gators.
The Lady Rebels, in game one, used excellent serving from Crissy Lambert to jump out to a quick 10-3 lead. Aces from Lambert and Mindy Richard contributed to the early lead. Senior Chelsea Albares’ kill gave the Lady Rebels a seven-point lead, 10-3. St. Amant finally broke a 7-0 run when Kayla Addison blocked an attempted kill by Riverside to make the score 11-4.
The second game saw more of the same for RA. Thanks to an ace from Lambert and a block and kill courtesy of Meggie Martin, the Lady Rebels jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead. Leading 10-5, Riverside went on a 5-0 run to win the game 15-5.
Three aces in a row courtesy of Mindy Richard were the final nail in the coffin for the Lady Gators. The Lady Rebels wind up the regular season Thursday against Assumption High School.
Lutcher versus St. James
Lutcher High School played a complete match this week in defeating St. James High School 15-4, 15-2.
Game one saw Lutcher jump out to a quick 6-0 lead when Briget Belak served two aces and Cary Roussel had a kill. Three more kills courtesy of Lyndi Martin propelled the Lady Bulldogs to a 10-2 lead.
Not only was Martin’s play in the front court exceptional, but her backcourt play was also noteworthy. She served three aces for the final three points of the first game.
The SJ Lady Wildcats did not get on to the board until Amayia Green’s ace made the score 6-1.
The second game started worse than the first for the Lady Wildcats. Lutcher started out on an 8-0 run thanks to four consecutive kills by Jamie Duhe and two aces from Roussel.
The lone Lady Wildcat points occurred when Natahsha Sterling and Jaranell Jones were serving.
A Belak ace finished the Lady Wildcats off in the second game.
