The construction of a new bicycle path atop the Mississippi River levee in St. Charles Parish is no yuppie thing, but a powerful instrument of economic development.
It’s recreation for all ages, contributing to the quality of life in the parish, as well as a window into some of the elements which make this one of the more attractive places in which to live. We can showcase our attractive homes, business areas and industries.
Visitors can see the new construction at St. Rose Elementary School and the new St. Rose library. They can see historical sites, a vital commerce and the river traffic which contributes so much to the national and world economy as part of the largest tonnage port in North America.
Before very long, the vision of school children checking out books in the library and finding a comfortable spot at which to read the book on the bank of the levee will be a reality. Idyllic scenes such as this will become a symbol of the good life in the River Parishes.
The path will eventually span the East Bank of the parish and a West Bank bike path is also on the drawing boards to begin construction soon. Both local residents and visitors will be able to equally enjoy this free fun and relaxation.
Good news is sometimes matched with bad news. This is all good and will only be getting better.
