BANKS
NEW ORLEANS – Josephine “Big Mama” Peterson Banks, 89, a native of Lutcher and resident of New Orleans for 60 years, died Oct. 16. She was the mother of the Rev. Vera Roscoe.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 21 at Second Zion Baptist Church, New Orleans, with interment at Lake Lawn Park.
DABNEY
ST. ROSE – Darren “Black Power” Dabney, 33, a native and resident of St. Rose, died Oct. 16. He was the son of Alverda Wise Dabney and the late Deloyd Dabney and brother of Beverly Gilliam, Sharon Grows, Renee Zeringue, Irene Lane and Chelita, the Rev. Renard Sr., Lary and Deloyd Dabney Jr.
Services were Oct. 21 at Fifth African Baptist Church, St. Rose, with interment at Providence Cemetery, Metairie.
FOLSE
BAYOU GAUCHE – Ernest J. Folse Jr., 82, a native of Raceland and rsident of Bayou Gauche, died Oct. 18. He was the husband of Grace Dufrene Folse and father of Linda Billiot, Ruth Foster and Ernest Jr., Russell and the late Ralph and Veronica Folse.
He was the son of the late Columbus and Elvira Melancon Folse and brother of the late Hamilton, Lawrence, Wilson and Simon Folse.
He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Services were Oct. 21 at Community Assembly of God Church, Bayou Gauche, with interment at Sunset Cemetery.
HUTCHINSON
KENNER – Louise Frazier Hutchinson, 78, a native of Boynton, Okla., former resident of Harahan for 50 years and resident of LaPlace for seven years, died Oct. 17. She was the mother of Sandra Jennings and Ronald and Lamar Hutchinson Jr.
She was the sister of Bernice Scott and Willard and J.J. Frazier.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was a former adminstrative clerk for Hydraulic Repairs.
Services were Oct. 22 in the chapel of L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, Kenner, with interment at Hutchinson Cemetery, Greenburg.
MADERE
LAPLACE – James S. Madere, 84, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Oct. 19. He was the husband of the late Norma Triche Madere and father of Cheryl Naquin, Janelle Bovia and James and John Madere.
He was the son of the late Similien and Lena Bethancourt Madere and brother of the late Sam, Clay and Lee Madere.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was a retired electrician.
Services were Oct. 22 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.
STANLEY
HARAHAN – William V. Stanley, 88, a native of Kansas City, Mo., and resident of Destrehan, died Oct. 18. He was the husband of Betty Jean Stanley and father of Virginia Pharris, Jeanne Duhe, Teresa Sosa and Joseph Stanley.
He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were Oct. 21 at Hickory Knoll Church of Christ, Harahan.
WILLIAMS
RIVER RIDGE – Leo James Williams Sr., 67, a native and resident of St. Rose, died Oct. 14. He was the father of Linda Ivory, Andre, Leon, Lennie, Michael and Leo Williams Jr. and stepfather of Ronnie and Jack Conway. He was the brother of Lydia Charles, Mary Davis, Doris Marbley and Rufus Williams.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a retired service station attendant.
Services were Oct. 21 in the chapel of Richardson Funeral Home, River Ridge, with interment at Port Hudson Cemetery, Zachary.
