ALEXANDER
EDGARD – Perkin “Rock” Alexander Jr., 60, a native of Edgard and resident of Baton Rouge, died Oct. 2. He was the husband of Lillian Thomas Alexander and father of LeJoan, Perkin III, Timothy, Terrance, Jonathan and the late Juanita Alexander.
He was the son of Perkin and Ethel Alexander and brother of Lucille Brown, Carolyn Wallace, Gloria Jackson, Darnell Jackson, Debbra Cummings, Andrew, Irvin, Milton and Alexander Alexander and the late Ethel Mae Louis, Sedonia Bailey and Warren Alexander.
He is also survived by 15 grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
BERTRAND
LAPLACE – Ophelia Hanks Bertrand, 87, a native of Gueydan, former resident of Sulphur and resident of LaPlace for six years, died Oct. 1. She was the wife of the late Lenis Bertrand and mother of Betty Sullivan and W. Jim and Carl Bertrand.
She is also survived by six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were Oct. 4 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at Adnrus Cove Cemetery, Lake Arthur.
BLACKWELL
KENNER – Alta “Sweetie” Winterbottom Blackwell, 80, a native of Lake Charles, former esident of St. Rose for 45 years and resident of Destrehan for a year and a half, died Oct. 2. She was the mother of Sandra Schexnaydre, Claude Foreman Jr. and Robert, Daniel, Patrick, Walter and the late Charles Blackwell Jr.
She was the daughter of the late Walter Sr. and Alta Romero Winterbottom and sister of Daniel, Robert, Arthur, James and the late Walter Jr. and Timothy Winterbottom.
She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a retired assistant registrar of voters for St. Charles Parish.
Services were Oct. 5 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Kenner, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.
CALDARERA
VACHERIE – Louis P. Caldarera, 81, a native of Gramercy and resident of Vacherie for 53 years, died Oct. 6. He was the husband of the late Laurence Tregre Caldarera and father of Louis, Ralph, Stephen, James and the late Carroll and Catherine Caldarera.
He was the son of the late John and Leticia Caldarera and brother of Noella Fraser, Leticia Richard, Joyce Bourgeois and Myrtis, Curtis, John, Glenn and the late Joseph “Buster” Caldarera.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8:30 a.m.
CHARBONNET
NEW ORLEANS – Eva Theresa Abadie Charbonnet, 86, a native of Vacherie and resident of New Orleans for 60 years, died Oct. 4. She was the wife of the late Austin Charbonnet and mother of Eve Petty, Eugene Breaux, Claudia Vicknair and Albert and the late Sidney Charbonnet.
She was the sister of Elmire Schmidt, Althea Loup and Enola Gaudin.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Private services were held Oct. 5, with interment at St. Roch No. 1 Cemetery, New Orleans.
DeSOTO
LULING – Raymond “R.D.” DeSoto, 73, a native of Luling and resident of Montegut, died Oct. 7. He was the husband of Ethel P. DeSoto and father of Judy Gravois, Susan Hodge and James and Dwayne DeSoto.
He was the son of the late Telesman and Clementine Willaba DeSoto and brother of Kitty Gremillion, Rose “Doddie” Hebert, Gertrude Michot, Patsy Catania, Luther DeSoto and the late Dorothy Ducote and Wellman and Rudy DeSoto.
He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are today at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Luling, with interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Luling. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.
HENRY
METAIRIE – Justin Lee Henry, 22, a native of Shreveport and resident of Destrehan for two years, died Sept. 28. He was the husband of Renee Bishop Henry and father of Chris and Al Bishop and Kayla and Kristen Henry.
He was the son of Andrew and Deborah Cospolich Henry and brother of Melissa and Matthew Henry.
He was also the grandchild of Marion Cospolich and Cecille Henry.
He was a graduate of Grace King High School, attended Delgago Community College and worked as a waiter at Chateaubriand Steak House.
Services were Oct. 5 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Cypress Grove Cemetery.
HICKMAN
GOLDEN MEADOW – Anthony “Tony” Albert Hickman, 53, a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., and resident of Golden Meadow and Luling, died Oct. 1. He was the husband of the Rev. Regina Brooks Hickman and father of Amanda Portera, Sarah Simoneaux and Brooks Hickman.
He was the son of Douglas Hickman and the late Margaret Lott Hickman, stepson of Willa Hickman and brother of Rita Dykes and Ted Hickman.
He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Services were Oct. 7 at Golden Meadow Methodist Church.
JOHNSON
RESERVE – Alberta Marie Johnson, 73, a native and resident of Reserve, died Sept. 22.
She was the daughter of the late Percy and Clara Johnson and sister of Jules Johnson and the late Mable and Hazel Jackson and Ervin, Junius, Ernest, Percy Jr., Matilda and Marylee Johnson.
Services were Oct. 5 at Greater New Plymouth Rock Baptist Church, Reserve, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions.
JOHNSON
EDGARD – Donald Johnson Sr., 56, a native and resident of Edgard, died Oct. 2.
He was the husband of Jane C. Johnson, father of Donald Jr. and Juan Johnson and the guardian of Bianca Pierre and Jayneka Boudoin.
He was the son of Gertrude and the late Clarence Johnson Sr. and brother of Lorraine Pierre, Belinda Powell, Dianne Pullen and Marie, Clarence Jr., Robert, Solomon and the Rev. Frank Johnson.
Services were Oct. 6 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Edgard, with interment at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Taft.
LANDRY
DES ALLEMANDS – Thelma Simoneaux Landry, 83, a native and resident of Des Allemands, died Oct. 5. She was the wife of the late Gordon Landry Sr. and mother of Kathleen Prentice, Carol Lockhart, Mary Rubin and Gordon Jr. and Sidney Landry.
She was the daughter of the late Sidney Sr. and Lydia Bergeron Simoneaux and sister of the late Irma Vial, Doris DeJean and Sidney Jr. and Leo Simoneaux.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 8 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands, with interment at the church cemetery.
LIRETTE
HAHNVILLE – Wayne P. Lirette, a native of Hahnville and resident of Laurel, Miss., died Sept. 30. He was the husband of Linda Champagne Lirette, father of Mandy and Rachel Lirette and stepfather of Dwayne and Brett Walters.
He was the son of June and the late Sidney Lirette and brother of Karen and Sharon Caillet, Tammy Puglise, Barbara Bourgeois, Angela Schexnaydre and Tanya, Donn, David and Randy Lirette.
He is also survived by four grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 7 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Hahnville, with interment at the church cemetery, Taft.
NARCISSE
AVONDALE – Curbit “Dusty” Narcisse Sr., 83, a native of Vacherie and resident of Bridge City, died Sept. 26. He was the husband of Lodia Narcisse and father of Lodia Garrison, Leona Richardson, Rosemary Mitchell, Dorothy Jackson, Linda Wilder and Curbit Jr., Thomas, Clarence, Nelson and Lynwood Narcisse.
He was the son of the late Roudolph Narcisse and Anna Narcisse Breaux and the brother of Mary Albert, Eunice Alexander, Vanilla Johnson, Jeanetta Sanders, Cuzzy and Robert Narcisse and the late Justillein Narcisse Sr., Agnes Robertson and Florence Williams.
He is also survived by 63 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 5 at Second Salvation Baptist Church, Bridge City, with interment at Restlawn Cemetery, Avondale.
PRESTON
HAHNVILLE – Arthur Preston, 60, a native of Killona and resident of Luling, died Sept. 30. He was the father of Bashawn McDaniel and stepfather of Marilyn, Hector and Matthew Bennett.
He was the brother of Celestine Anderson, Ezola Isaac, Martha Williams, Alice Brown and Carol, Olivia, Marie, Gloria, Sterling, Sherman, Roosevelt, Charles, Hervon and Lionel Preston.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
He was a retired cemetery attendant.
Services are today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Robottom Mortuary, Hahnville, with interment at Bethlehem Cemetery, Hahnville. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.
SMITH
MARRERO – Billie Skains Hanrahan Smith, 70, a native of Farmerville, former resident of Monroe and resident of Des Allemands for the past year and a half, died Oct. 3. She was the wife of the late Donald Hanrahan, by first marriage, and Joseph Smith, by second marriage, and mother of the late Michael Hanrahan.
She was the daughter of the late Moses Skains and Jewell Ellis and sister of Carl Telano, Joyce Bozeman and the late Richard Skains.
She is also survived by one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Services were Oct. 7 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe.
VICKNAIR
LAPLACE – Delaune J. Vicknair, 89, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Oct. 4. He was the husband of the late Lillian Schexnaydre Vicknair and father of Juanita Simon.
He was the brother of Clara Ancale, Margaret Jouty, Jeanne Hymel and the late Virginia Madere and Jeffery, Ambrose and Henry Vicknair.
He is also survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Services were Oct. 6 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.
WAREN
CLEVELAND, Miss. – Darlene Waren, 67, a native of Cotton Plant, Ark., former resident of LaPlace for 22 years and resident of Cleveland, Miss., for six months, died Oct. 1. She was the wife of Ruben Waren and mother of Connie Rizzo and Wendy, James and Ronnie Waren.
She was the daughter of Virgil Register and Abby Davis.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 3 in the chapel of Ray Funeral Home, Cleveland, Miss., with interment at Beulah Cemetery, Cleveland, Miss.
WARREN
VACHERIE – Philomena “Babutt” Simoneaux Warren, 62, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Sept. 27. She was the mother of Kenneth, Kevin, Keith, Penny and Avis Simoneaux and Kristina and Tyson Collins.
She was the daughter of the late Walter and Sylvia Simoneaux and sister of Odessa Pinkins, Cleonia, Hillary and Kermit Simoneaux, Sidney Warren, David Hensley and the late Aldonia Joseph, Clarence Simoneaux and George Warren.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren.
She was a cook at Jubilee Casino.
Services were Oct. 5 at Greater First Baptist Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery.
WASHINGTON
EDGARD – Raymond “Tano” Washington, 51, a native and resident of Edgard, died Oct. 4. He was the husband of Dorothy Washington and father of Patrice, Raymond Jr. and April Washington.
He was the son of the late Charles and Ernestine Washington and brother of Junius Washington.
He is also survived by five grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 8 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery.
