LAPLACE – The Louisiana Airport Authority recently announced the schedule for the upcoming Public Information Workshops related to the project site area for the proposed Louisiana Transportation Center.

The workshops will be an opportunity for the general public to obtain information on the Site Selection Study process. URS Corporation, the planning and engineering consulting firm that performed the study will conduct the workshops, which will have an informal “open house” format encouraging the public to come and spend as much or as little time as desired.

URS representatives will be available to answer questions related to the study as well as provide preliminary information on upcoming tasks including the Master Plan, Land Acquisition, and Environmental Study.

In addition, forms will be available at the workshops so the public may submit written comments about the project.

All of the workshops will be identical and citizens are welcome to attend any of the meetings.

The locations and times are as follows: Oct. 8, 6-9 p.m., Donaldsonville/Lemann Center, Ascension Parish, 1100 Clay Street; Oct. 9, 6-9 p.m., Vacherie/West Bank Hall, St. James Parish, River Road.

When asked about the workshops, Glen Smith, chairman of the Louisiana Airport Authority, said, “These workshops will inform the public of how the preferred site was selected. This is also an opportunity to meet informally with the public and solicit input on their concerns.”

In August, the preferred site for the 25,000-acre Louisiana Transportation Center was identified. Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River, it is in the general vicinity of White Castle, Belle Rose, and Donaldsonville and within the parishes of Iberville, Assumption, and Ascension.

The LTC is a multi-modal transportation facility will be built through a public/private partnership. It will include an international airport, intermodal rail yard, docking facilities and trucking networks, along with intermodal cargo facilities, manufacturing, and distribution development.
