BABIN

METAIRIE – Emile J. “Pete” Babin Sr., 79, a native of Luling and lifelong resident of New Orleans, died July 21. He was the husband of Lena R. Babin and father of Patricia Seward and Emile Babin Jr.

He is also survived by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Memorial services were July 23 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie.

BRAZAN

SOUTH VACHERIE – Richard J. Brazan Sr., 83, a native of Addis and resident of Vacherie, died July 19. He was the father of Donna Gauthreaux and Susan, Richard Jr., Paul, Patrick, James and Thomas Brazan.

He was the son of the late Richard and Elizabeth Webre Brazan and brother of Lois Durocher, Ollie Morlier, Louis and Joseph Brazan and the late Louella Pavlovich and Ray Brazan.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were July 22 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery.

BROWN

VACHERIE – Ruth Noel Brown, 74, a native and resident of Vacherie, died July 17. She was the mother of Marsha Fleming and Grayling, Leonard and Gregory Brown Sr.

She was the sister of Lillian Harris, Audrelle Lewis and Dorothy, Percy, Joseph, Albert and Clarence Noel.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were July 20 at First Baptist Church of Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery.

CARTER

CONVENT – Ronald D. “Big Daddy” Carter Sr., 48, a native and resident of Convent, died July 18. He was the husband of Shandra Carter and father of Raphell, Roshawn, Adarryell, Ronald Jr., Rondell and Kyron Carter.

He was the son of Lillian Carter and brother of Geraldine Marshall, Nancy White and Ethel, Dianne, Larry and James Carter. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren.

Services were July 23 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, Convent, with interment at St. Michael Cemetery, Convent.

CORTEZ

SOUTH VACHERIE – Reed Lawrence Cortez, 72, a native of Kraemer and resident of Vacherie, died July 20. He was the husband of the late Marylou Simon Cortez and father of Catherine Martinez, Celia Becnel and Manuel, Kevin and the late Bonita Cortez.

He was the son of the late Elmo and Philomena Kraemer Cortez and brother of Naize, Wanda, Nolan, Leo, Douglas, Chris and the late Floyd Cortez.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were July 23 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery.

DUFRENE

PARADIS – Hazel Deroche Dufrene, 75, a native of Killona and resident of Bayou Gauche, died July 22. She was the wife of the late Carol Dufrene and mother of Angie Deroche and Carol Jr., Gregory and April Dufrene.

She was the daughter of the late Waldo and Elvire Madere Deroche and sister of Clara Deubler, Thelma Michot, Hope Guidry, Grace Shifflett, Larry and Lawrence Deroche and the late Aline Hebert, Ethel Zimmerman and Joseph Deroche.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Paradis, with interment at Sunset Cemetery, Bayou Gauche. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

HARRIS

LULING – Morene McIlveene Harris, 76, a resident of Luling, died July 19. She was the wife of Johnny Harris and mother of Susan Lorio and Ginny Watson.

She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Delia Pair McIlveene and sister of the late Marvin, Malvin and Fay McIlveene.

She is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services were July 22 at First Baptist Church of Luling, with interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Luling.

HAYDEL

CONVENT – Blanche Andermann “Bunny” Haydel, 76, a native and resident of Union, died July 21. She was the wife of the late Etienne Haydel Jr. and mother of Connie Roussel, Jill Troxclair, Aaron Bourque and Michael, Danny, Dale, Kent, Marty, Troy and the late Patrick Haydel.

She was the daughter of Antoine and Cecile Melancon Andermann and sister of Emily Kernan, Janet Small, Norma Ricca and the late Daniel, Harold and Gilbert Andermann.

She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services are today at noon at St. Michael Catholic Church, Convent, with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Union. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

HEARY

ST. JAMES – Louis “Boo-Boo” Heary Jr., 63, a native of Welcome and resident of St. James, died July 18. He was the husband of Velma Lewis Heary and father of Gail Whittington, Louise Dumas and Pamela and Shavel Heary.

He was the son of Alice Spencer Heary and the late Louis Heary Sr. and brother of Lydia and Betty Stewart, Amelia Henderson, Patricia Schexnayder, Barbara Poche, Yvonne Green and the late Albemia Mayho.

He is also survived by six grandchildren.

Services were July 22 at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, with interment at the church cemetery.

HEBERT

RESERVE – Ridley T. Hebert, 82, a native of Napoleonville and resident of Reserve for the past 60 years, died July 20. He was the husband of the late Louise Monica Hebert and father of Veronica Sylvest.

He was the son of the late Paul and Irma Hebert and brother of Ernest Hebert, Jeanne Talbot, Marie Millet, Shirley Naquin and the late Felix “Pete” and Robert Hebert, Mary Aucoin, Levie Cavalier, Pearl Simoneaux, Pansy Cedotal and Mildren LeBlanc.

He is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services were July 23 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the church cemetery.

LEE

AMITE – William Ellis Lee, 75, a native of Independence and resident of LaPlace for 30 years, died July 20. He was the husband of Marie Bienvenu Lee and father of Sue Erwin and Mike, Ricky and Rodney Lee.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II and worked for Greyhound Bus Line for 32 years.

Services were July 23 in the chapel of McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, with interment at Loranger Cemetery.

MILLET

NORCO – Alvin “A.A.” Millet, 74, a native of Montz and resident of Norco for 51 years, died July 20. He was the husband of Joyce P. Millet and father of Jody Duhon and Wendy Cristina, Glenn and the late Alvin Jr., Drew and Dana Millet.

He was the son of the late Nemoure and Winnie D. Millet and brother of Shirley Heurtin, Jeanette Jenkins, Elaine Matherne, Margaret Simoneaux and the late Nemoure Jr. and Richard Millet.

He is also survived by six grandchildren.

He was retired from Shell Oil Company and served as a justice of the peace for 32 years.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

MISTRETTA

METAIRIE – Frank Camello Mistretta, 76, a native of New Orleans and resident of St. Rose for 33 years, died July 19. He was the husband by first marriage of the late Mary Ann Marsh Mistretta and by second marriage of 18 years of Emilie Shepard Triche Mistretta; father of Mary Ann “Candy” Matherne, Faye Blanchard, Jill Bergeron and Jan, Steve Sr., Merrick, Marc, Robert and the late Eric Mistretta; and stepfather of James, Stephen, Bernard, Douglas and Richard Triche.

He was the son of Frank and Clara Simoneaux Mistretta.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 12 step-grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, past president of Bar-None Ranch Estates Civic Association, Eucharistic minister for Ormond Nursing Home and a retired real estate agent.

He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 9347, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6640 and American Legion Post 0366.

Services were July 23 at Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church, Metairie, with interment at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.

PETROLIA

NORCO – Adam Petrolia, 33, a resident of Albany, died July 14. He was the former husband of Halie LeBlanc.

He was the son of Melvin and Beverly Gaudet Petrolia and brother of Joy Petrolia of Norco.

Services were July 22 in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, Norco, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

POLLARD

NEW SARPY – Mildred K. Pollard, 79, a native of Good Hope and resident of New Sarpy, died July 18.

She was the wife of the late James Pollard and mother of Olivia Love, Vallerie Gayden, Emanuel Seals Jr., Althea, Donald, James, Gordon and Brian Pollard and the late Kay Strong.

She was the daughter of the late Jessie Kelly and Olevia Kelly Lane and sister of Evelyn Jones, Vivian Kenner, Shirley Lane, Lillian Miles, Jessie Kelly, Joseph Lane and the late James Kelly, Herman Jones, Josephine Robertson, Hazel Douglas and Beatrice and Leola Kelly.

She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church, New Sarpy, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

ROBICHAUX

NORCO – Madeliene “Blackie” Miranda Robichaux, 75, a native of Ensley, Ala., and lifelong resident of Norco, died July 20. She was the sister of Marie Johnson and the late Sam and Anthony Miranda.

She is also survived by 32 nieces and nephews.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and an employee of Winn-Dixie, Destrehan.

Services were July 23 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Metairie.
