ALLEN

RACELAND – David Arthur Allen, 55, a native of San Antonio, Texas, former resident of New Orleans and resident of Des Allemands for four years, died July 26. He was the son of the late Van and Myrtle Allen and brother of Elizabeth, Ronald, Van Dee, Donald, Brian, Glen and Patrick Allen.

He was a graduate of Hahnville High School and Nicholls State University and a member of Alpha Psi Omega.

Memorial services are today at 4 p.m. at Falgout Funeral Home, Raceland, with visitation at 3 p.m.

BAZILE

ST. JAMES – Pauliska Fobb Bazile, 89, a native and resident of St. James, died July 27. She was the wife of the late Joseph Bazile Jr. and mother of Gennevie Treaudo, Ida Jasmin and Herbert, Curtis, Charles, Stanley, Clarence, Sheldon and the late Junius Bazile.

She was the daughter of the late John Fobb and Puliska Commene.

She is also survived by 43 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

She was a seamstress.

Services were Aug. 2 at St. Luke Baptist Church, St. James, with interment at Buena Vista Cemetery, Lemanville.

GAUTREAUX

BATON ROUGE – Mae Loretta Gaudet Gautreaux, a native of St. John the Baptist Parish and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, died July 31. She was the wife of the late E.J. “Eddie” Gautreaux and mother of Mary Bueche, Joy Anne Mulloy and the late James Ralph Gautreaux.

She was the daughter of the late Mercier and Martine Lasseigne Gaudet and sister of Ollie Jameson, Lois Boudreaux and the late Verna Turner.

She is also survived by one grandchild.

Services are today at noon at St. Francis Chapel at Ollie Steele Manor, Baton Rouge, with interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Baton Rouge. Visitation starts at 10:45 a.m.

GEASON

AMA – Lawrence “Pelo” Geason Sr., 71, a native of St. James and resident of Ama, died July 27. He was the wife of Philomene Williams Geason and father of Wilma Webb, Debra Morris, Bonnie White, Karen Dudley, Sharon Simpkins and Fabian and Lawrence Geason Jr.

He was the son of the late Milton and Fannie Geason Sr. and brother of Dorothy Hensley, Shirley Joseph, Gloria Simmons, Charles Smith, Milton Jr. and Percy Geason Sr. and the late Theresa Steib and Alex Geason.

He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Aug. 1 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Ama, with interment at Mt. Pilgrim Cemetery, Ama.

GROWS

WALLACE – Nelson “Jug” Grows, 35, a native and resident of Wallace, died July 28. He was the former husband of the late Shanell Megg Grows and father of Shane, Camrin and Joy Grows.

He was the son of Clementine Poche Grows and the late Melvin Grows Sr. and brother of Ileen, Kevin, Raymond, Herbert and the late Melvin Grows Jr.

Services were Aug. 1 at Morning Star Baptist Church, Wallace, with interment at Willow Grove Cemetery, Wallace.

KELLER

NEW ORLEANS – Sister Mary Bernadette Keller, O.P., 88, a native of Garyville and resident of New Orleans, died July 30. She was born Loretta Lorna Keller, the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Dora Ory Keller and sister of the late Ethel Wild, Carmen Dahlstrom and Ferdinand Keller.

She was in her 69th year of religious life, having professed her vows as a Dominican in 1934.

She received a bachelor’s of arts degree in education at St. Mary’s Dominican College and taught at several schools, including St. Peter in Reserve and St. Joseph in Paulina. After retiring as a teacher in 1986, she served on the staff at Place duBourg in LaPlace until 1991.

Services were Aug. 2 at the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse Chapel, New Orleans, with interment at the Dominican Sisters Cemetery in Rosaryville, Ponchatoula.

KIRKLIN

LUTCHER – Jamesetta Jackson “Zett” Kirklin, 61, a resident of Lutcher, died July 27. She was the wife of Robert Kirklin Sr. and mother of DeEtta Long.

She was the sister of Lottie Jones, June Smith and Herbert Jr., Lloyd, Donald, Reginald and Keith Jackson.

She was a retired secretary at Lutcher Junior High School.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at King David Baptist Church, Lutcher, with interment at Western Cemetery, Lutcher.

LEE

GRAMERCY – Velma Stewart Lee, 80, a native of Mt. Airy and resident of Lutcher, died July 27. She was the mother of Doris Johnson and Manuel Jr., Vernon, Noel and James Lee.

She was the daughter of the late Eddie and Aldonia Luke Stewart and sister of Ethel Jackson, Alice Alexis, Gloria Davis, Willie Mae Taylor, Geneva Long, Eddie and Milton Stewart and the late Dorothy Knight, Eura Lee Porter and Raymond and Melvin Stewart.

She is survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Services were Aug. 2 at Greater Golden Grove Baptist Church, Gramercy, with interment at Golden Wreath Cemetery.

MATHERNE

PAULINA – Hubert J. “Mott” Matherne, 70, a resident of Paulina, died July 30. He was the husband of 50 years of Lorraine St. Pierre Matherne and father of Bonnie Brignac, Penny Wernic, Kelly DeRoche, Tammy LaCarbo, Vicki Vicknair and Laurie and Terry “Li’l Mott” Matherne.

He was the son of the late George and Cecile Matherne and brother of Bernice Martin and Gerner Sr. and the late Percy and Bertrand Matherne.

He is survived by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and was prece ded in death by two grandchildren.

He was a retired supervisor of 30 years at Colonial Sugar in Gramercy.

Services were Aug. 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church cemetery.

MEGGS

VACHERIE – Shanell Marie Meggs, 31, a native and resident of Vacherie, died July 30. She was the former wife of the late Nelson Grows and mother of Joy, Shane and Camrin Grows.

She was the daughter of Albert and Brenda Meggs and sister of Trina Dorris and Meeka Dennis.

She was also the granddaughter of Juanita Stewart.

She was a security guard at Louisiana Power and Light in Luling. She graduated from St. James High School and attended Southern University and Nicholls State University and was a member of the church choir.

Services are today at noon at First Baptist Church of Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

MILLET

GARYVILLE – Minnie Bourgeois Millet, 81, a native of Lutcher and resident of Garyville, died July 31. She was the wife, by first marriage, of the late Auley “Bill” Roussel and, by second marriage, of the late Ferducie “Fatty” Millet and the mother of Amelia Gautreau, Ferrell Millet and Danny Roussel.

She was the daughter of the late Humphrey and Kate Allen Bourgeois and sister of Ervin “Buddy” Bourgeois and the late Sienna Millet and Doris Bourgeois.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 1:30 p.m. at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Garyville, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

MONTGOMERY

LAPLACE – James Norman Montgomery, 83, a native of Monticello, Ark., and resident of LaPlace for 56 years, died July 30.

He was the husband of 56 years of Frances Ferraro Montgomery and father of Deborah Tewis.

He was the son of the late Jay and Mary Mays Montgomery and brother of June Stephenson, Janice Kulbeth, Bobby Joe Montgomery and the late Jayme Trotter, Lenora Cunningham, Reba Huskey, Frances Mathis, Martha Stephenson, Joyce Person and Louis and Hollis Montgomery.

He is also survived by two grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Medical Corps for four years and he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

MUNSON

LAPLACE – Lydia Guillot Munson, 84, a native of Napoleonville and resident of LaPlace for 21 years, died July 31.

She was the wife of the late James Munson Sr. and mother of Linda Munson-Haley, Marilyn Mitchell and James Munson Jr.

She was the daughter of the late Orvillien and Louise Fremin Guillot and sister of Jeanne Zeringue and the late Eugenia Krebs, Marie Sareussen and Percy, Robert, Claude, George and David Guillot.

She is also survived by six grandchildren.

Services were Aug. 2 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.

STEWART

ST. ROSE – Mary F. Stewart, 78, a native of Roseland and resident of Destrehan, died July 28.

She was the wife of the late Edward L. Stewart and mother of the late Michael Stewart.

She was the daughter of the late Walter and Fannie Vernon Morgan.

Graveside services were Aug. 1 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose.
