BABIN

LAPLACE – Lydie Brignac Babin, 86, a native of Head of Island and resident of LaPlace for 65 years, died June 28. She was the wife of the late Oscar Babin Sr. and mother of Oscar Babin Jr.

She was the daughter of the late John and Ella Brignac and sister of the late Louise Mitchell, Edna Dupuy, Odelia Hebert, Rowena Lambert and John, James and Russell Brignac.

She is survived by one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Services were July 1 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

BARTLEY

KILLONA – Celestine Bartley, 66, a native of Killona and resident of Hahnville, died June 24. She was the wife of Ernest Bartley Jr. and mother of Rhonda Mitt, Patricia LeBlanc, Betty Jean Dent, Kevin, Darryl and Nathaniel Bartley and Kenneth, Byron, Anthony and the late Arthur Davis Jr.

She was the daughter of the late Sedonia Jupiter and Isaac Dent and sister of Ernestine Showers, Lena Stipe, Eugene Jupiter, Ernest Dents and the late Naomi Summers, Joseph Vincent and Richard, James and Phillip Dent.

She is also survived by 35 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services were July 2 at Children of Israel Baptist Church, Killona, with interment at Greenhill Cemetery, Taft.

BOSSIER

BATON ROUGE – Floris Ann Decareaux Bossier, 79, a native of Gramercy and resident of Baton Rouge, died June 27. She was the wife of 54 years of Leo Bossier and mother of Dena, Mike, John and Leo Bossier and the late Joan Mayeux.

She was the daughter of the late Theodule and Carmen Decareaux and sister of Freda LeBlanc, Dot Armoney, Cesir Decareaux and the late Roberta Clement.

She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were June 29 at St. George Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, with interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

BOUDOIN

MARRERO – Ujie M. Boudoin Sr., 70, a native of Paradis and resident of Bridge City, died June 28. He was the father of Mathilda Lepine, Cindy White, Lori Macaluso, Trudy Gaud and Ujie Boudoin Jr.

He was the brother of Rose Gollotte, Rita Lamartiniere and Alice Robichaux.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was a painter foreman at Avondale Shipyards.

Services were July 1 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery, Westwego.

CAMBRE

RESERVE – Edward Joseph “410” Cambre, 58, a native and resident of Reserve, died June 24. He was the father of Delvekio Coleman and Tashia Cambre and stepfather of Larcain Arlene.

He was the son of the late Herbert Cambre Sr. and Mae Mason and brother of Mary Mack, Herbert Jr. and Anthony “Tony” Cambre and the late Vernon and Mary Mae Cambre and Charles Johnson.

He is also survived by five grandchildren.

Services were July 1 at New Pilgrim Baptist Church, Reserve, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions.

CHOPIN

MARRERO – Annie “Tee Mae” Harry Chopin, 86, a native of Vacherie and resident of Marrero for 50 years, died June 26. She was the mother of Rose Wofford, Bessie Oubre, Josephine Jacks and Edward Sr., Ivan Sr., Alvin and Calvin Chopin.

She was the sister of Anita and Eva Batiste and Herbert and Milton Harry.

She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Services were June 29 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Marrero, with interment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, South Vacherie.

CLEMENT

LAPLACE – Amy Tabor Clement, 86, a native of Chactaw and resident of LaPlace for 80 years, died June 27. She was the wife of the late Gustave Clement, by second marriage, and of Wilford Chenier Jr., by first marriage, and mother of Ricky Chenier, Barbara Bourgeois, Geri Weber and Joyce Murry.

She was the daughter of the late Albert and Helena Tabor and sister of Ruby Hebert and Claude Tabor.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were July 1 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

DARENSBURG

KENNER – Alice Darensburg, 74, a native of Madisonville and resident of Norco for 48 years, died June 25. She was the wife of the late Joseph Darensburg and mother of Pamela Jones, Sherole Ellis, Betty Wright, Alice Tolivett and Joseph, Dennis, Ronald and the late Anthony Darensburg.

She was the daughter of the late Legon and Leona Chanel and sister of Joe, Curtis, Leo, Melvin, Anthony and the late Charles and Leona Chanel.

She is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.

Services were July 1 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Kenner, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.

GEARHEARD

PAULINA – Marguerite Faucheux Gearheard, 91, a native and resident of Lutcher, died June 28. She was the wife of the late Arthur “A.G.” Gearheard Jr. and mother of William Gearheard and the late Margot Jacobs and Arthur “Grant” Gearheard III.

She was the sister of Myrtis Blount.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were July 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church mausoleum.

JOHNSTON

RESERVE – Debra Gale Johnston, 49, a native of Reserve and resident of Garyville, died June 28. She was the mother of Verna, Sherrie and Troy Johnston and companion of Allen Volion.

She was the sister of Trudy Guillotte, Lorraine Moore, Elsie Bourgeois and Robert, Freddie and Roy McIntyre.

She is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Robottom Mortuary, Reserve, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

KUGLER

PONCHATOULA – Mark Young Kugler, 23, a native of Ponchatoula and resident of Hammond, died June 5 in an auto accident. He was the son of Mark and Rhonda Ridgdell Kugler and brother of Jonathan and Andrew Kugler of Ponchatoula and of the late Phillip Kugler.

He was the grandchild of Emile and Dolores Cox Kugler and Owen and Ruth Hopkins Ridgdell, all of Ponchatoula. He was also the great-grandchild of Blanche Kugler of Norco.

He was a 1996 honors graduate of Ponchatoula High School and a medical stenographer with North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

Services were June 8 in the chapel of Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, with interment at Sand Hill Cemetery, Ponchatoula.

OUBRE

RESERVE – Leona Troxler Oubre, 90, a native of Garyville and resident of LaPlace, died June 25. She was the mother of Doris Jacob, Nelwyn Lebeouf, Lois Falgoust, Carolyn Cashio and Earl, Rodney, Warren and Rene Oubre III.

She was the sister of Antionette Duhe.

She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were June 29 at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Garyville, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

ST. PIERRE

PAULINA – Al Joseph St. Pierre Jr., 24, a native and resident of Grand Point, died July 1. He was the son of Al St. Pierre Sr. and Pamela Ann Savoie Madere, stepson of Annette Josey and Joseph Madere and brother of Jamie St. Pierre.

He was also the grandchild of Manuel Sr. and Noemie Forsythe St. Pierre and Elda Mae and the late Sidney Savoie Jr.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

SMART

BATON ROUGE – Raymond “Slim” Smart, 77, a native of Convent and resident of Baton Rouge, died June 22. He was the father of Delphia Franklin.

He was the son of the late Moses and Daisy Ambush Smart and brother of Lionel Smart and the late Elizabeth Swain, Florida Stewart and Either, Doreatha, Leon and Peter Smart.

Services were June 29 at Living Word Missionary Baptist Church, with interment at Stockdale Cemetery.

VATH

RESERVE – John L. Vath Jr., 56, a native of Oklahoma and resident of LaPlace for 14 years, died June 20. He was the husband of Kathleen Vath and father of Wendy Fouquet, Robin Nelson, Angel Massey and Mark Vath. He was also the legal guardian of Frank and Christian Kener.

He was the son of Aime Brien Vath and the late John Vath Sr. and brother of Kathleen Faler, Margaret “Peggy” Warner, Joan Blythe and Mary “Molly” Berzas.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.

Memorial services were June 21 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Reserve, with private interment.

VERON

PAULINA – Ernest J. Veron, 67, a native of Lutcher and resident of Greencastle, Pa. for five years, died June 21. He was the father of Mary Hill, Donna Waguespack, Margaret Pearce, JoAnn Melancon and Mark Veron.

He was the brother of Estelle Weil, Jeanne Melancon, Odile Brignac and Lorna Louque

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren.

He was a retired electrician for Local Union No. 602.

Services were July 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church cemetery.

WHARTON

METAIRIE – Mildred Lifsey Wharton, 89, a native of New Orleans, former resident of Hahnville and resident of Metairie, died June 27. She was the wife of the late Frank Wharton and mother of Carolyn Mahady-Tregre and Frank Wharton.

She was the daughter of the late Caroline Rinehart and William Lifsey Sr. and sister of the late Althea Boaz, Doris Andrieu and William Jr. and Harold Lifsey.

She is survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were June 28 in the chapel of Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
