Veto needed

DEAR EDITOR: I read with dismay as five members of our parish council deemed it fiscally responsible to choose a health insurance plan that cost $900,000 more than the administration’s recommendation.

Granted, the change and increase were imminent due to bankruptcy proceedings of “The Oath,” but I cannot comprehend their thought processes in declining the reasonable United Health Care plan. This $300,000 increase itself is a hefty sum, but somewhat representative of the upswing in today’s insurance market.

The good old days of employers picking up the full costs of health insurance are gone. Meanwhile, the taxpayers’ salvation of this ridiculous measure will lie in Mr. Monica’s veto.
