ACOSTA

LAPLACE – Chad James Acosta, 43, a native of New Orleans and resident of LaPlace, died May 28. He was the husband of Linda Van Dyke Acosta, father of Ryan and Dane Acosta and stepfather of Paul Van Dyke, Jared and Ashley Louque.

He was also the son of the late Robert and Bernice Madere Acosta, stepson of the late Roland Moneret and brother of R.J. and the late Deborah Acosta.

Private services are planned at a later date.

ANDREWS

LULING – Charles L. Andrews Sr., 93, a native of Lottie and resident of Destrehan, died May 29. He was the husband of Euna Songy Andrews and father of Euna Reschke, Barbara Jochetz, Charles and Gordon Andrews.

He was also the son of the late Julius and Edna Blanchard Andrews, and brother of Jean, Winnie, Helen and the late Inez, Melba, Lorraine, Elsie, Mae, Julius and Claude Andrews. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was a retired supervisor with Shell Oil Company.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at First Union Presbyterian Church, Luling, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

AUGUST

EDGARD – Casimere Joseph August, 70, a native and resident of Edgard, died May 24. He was the husband of Elina Lapeyrolerie August and father of Monica LaSalle, Anuska Favorite, Erana Gauthier, Schwann Irons, Theresa Millsaps, Danielle Jarrow, Pamela Darensbourg, Charlotte Celestine, JoAnnette Washington, Donella Johnson, Casimere Jr., Malcolm, Chyrall and Jason August and the late Marie Barrett.

He was also the son of the late Joe and Alma Antonio August and brother of Steven Pierre, Harry August and the late Furlo, Raymond, Edward and Claude August. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

BOURGEOIS

METAIRIE – Gary Joseph Bourgeois, 57, a native of Luling and resident of Harahan, died May 27. He was the husband of Donna Toups Bourgeois and father of Kristie Spedale and Dwayne Bourgeois.

He was also the son of the late Newton and Lillie Bourgeois and brother of Opal Legendre.

He is also survived by four grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a retired maintenance technician at Monsanto Chemical. Services were May 30 in the chapel of Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Garden of Memories.

BROWN

GARYVILLE – Eva Williams Brown, 72, a native of St. James and resident of Garyville for 60 years, died May 27. She was the wife of Blanche Brown and mother of Evelyn, LeEthel, Loretta, Evella, Branches, James, Michael and Ike Brown.

She was also the sister of Mary Conner, Martha Meggs, Victoria Williams, Alberta and Lee Ethel Johnson and James and Junius Williams. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at True Light Baptist Church, Garyville, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions.

COOPER

GONZALES – Margaret Lemar Cooper, 77, a native of Lutcher and resident of Gonzales, died May 25. She was the husband of the late Robert Cooper and mother of Beverly, Barbara, Dottie, Marie, Richard and Lawrence Cooper.

She was also the daughter of the late Dennis and Celestine Alexis Lemar and sister of Justina Johnson, Ethel King, Lizzie Governor, Gloria Johnson, Charlotte Smith, Nola Lemar and the late Janie Carr, Edna Johnson and Edward Young Sr. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Christian Assembly Church, Gonzales, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

DeMARCO

HAMPTON, Va. – Anthony DeMarco Jr., 74, a native of Reserve and resident of Hampton, Va., for 35 years, died May 23. He was the husband of Alvina DeMarco and father of Anthony DeMarco III.

He was also the brother of Rosalie Zappula and Josie, Russell, Sal and Joseph DeMarco. He is also survived by two grandchildren.

Services were May 28 in the chapel of Hadin-Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, Va.

HARRIS

NEW ORLEANS – Lorraine “MaRaine” S. Harris, 85, a native of St. John the Baptist Parish and resident of New Orleans for 64 years, died May 24. She was the wife of the late Lawrence Harris and mother of Audrey Jett and Clifton Charlot Jr. She is survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by one grandchild.

She was a former refinery worker and domestic worker.

Services were May 30 at St. Simon Peter Catholic Church, New Orleans, with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park.

HOWARD

BATON ROUGE – Ethel Gaines Howard, 95, a native of St. James and resident of Baton Rouge, died May 24. She was the wife of Clarence Howard Sr. and mother of Ethel Bryant and the late Clarence Howard Jr. She was also the sister of the late James Grayol Sr. She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Greater New Guide Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, with interment at Winnfield Memorial Park. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

JOHNSON

METAIRIE – Beulah Lee Smith Johnson, 62, a native of Fayette, Miss., and resident of St. Rose, died May 29. She was the wife of the Rev. Alexander Johnson Sr. and mother of the Rev. Alexander Jr. and Mitchell Johnson. She was also the sister of Kate Riggs, Regina, Theresa and Charles Brown and Mary, J.C., James and Louis Gayles. She is also survived by nine grandchildren.

Services were May 31 at First Love Mission Baptist Church, Metairie, with interment at Restlawn Park Mausoleum.

KELLER

CONVENT – Gladys Himel Keller, 91, a native and resident of Convent, died May 27. She was the wife of the late Welham Keller.

She was also the daughter of the late Jude Henry and Adele Himel and sister of Evelyn Theriot, Lloyd and Malcolm Himel and the late Mayh Mart and Amelie, Camille, Yvonne, Warren, Carl and James Himel.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Convent, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulina. Visitation starts at 11 a.m.

KLIEBERT

PAULINA – Judge Thomas J. Kliebert, 76, a native of Vacherie and resident of Paulina, died May 30. He was the husband of Agnes Roussel Kliebert and father of Gwen Hankenhof, Sharon Deroche, Cindy Meyer, Jane Poche and Thomas Kliebert Jr.

He was also the son of the late Samuel Jr. and Elucia Falgoust Kliebert and brother of Beatrice Picou, Norma Bourgeois and Roy and the late Daniel and Hewitt Kliebert.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a graduate of Tulane University and Loyola Law School.

He was admitted to the bar in 1953 and maintained a law practice in Gramercy until November 1980 when he was elected as a judge of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, from which was created the Fifth Circuit Court. He continued to serve until his retirement in October 1995.

Services are today at noon at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at a later date.

MASON

RESERVE – Mary Louise Mason, 84, a native of LaPlace and resident of New Orleans, died May 26. She was the sister of Ethel and Charles Mason Jr.

Services were May 30 at St. James Major Catholic Church, New Orleans, and later at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

RODRIGUEZ

NORCO – Willie Joseph Rodriguez, 77, a native of Paradis and resident of Norco, died May 27. He was the husband of Eunice Granier Rodriguez and father of Sally Roberts and Eunice Chaisson. He was also the brother of Wilbert and Larry Rodriguez. He is also survived by five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were May 30 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan.

STEWART

LAPLACE – Edward “Li’l Pete” Stewart Jr., 41, a native of Mt. Airy, died May 23. He was the son of Edward Stewart Sr. and Maryland Alexis Eugene, stepson of Johnny Eugene, brother of Vernon Sr., Stanley Sr. and Dwight Alexis Sr. and stepbrother of Ann Charles, Jacatlia Turley and Barbara, LaTanya, Ronald, Wendell and Warren Eugene.Services were May 30 at St. Michael Baptist Church, LaPlace, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions.
